Empowering our Students as Leaders

The Upper Elementary Student Council at ISS International School is up and running again this year. At our initial meeting, we stopped and took a fresh look at our purpose.

We examined our school’s mission statement and highlighted the role Student Council plays in upholding this mission. Through discussion, we found action to be an essential element in our group’s purpose.

As a group, we explored the PYP Action Cycle in order to understand how the Student Council can find opportunities to choose to act, make decisions, and reflect on these actions in order to help ISS students make a difference.

One of our current projects is working on improving Student Council’s role in providing tours for prospective families with our Admissions Department.

We are also in the process of talking to other schools’ Student Councils in the Network. We have a survey to share in order to learn about how other Student Councils are structured, function, and support their schools. If you are interested in having your Student Council take our survey, please follow this link. We look forward to hearing from you.
